Weight loss

Weight loss has always been a concern with the ones who are physically overweight or obese. An individual with an unhealthy level of body fat is considered as overweight and is usually diagnosed in individuals who have a sedentary lifestyle and inappropriately excessive and unhealthy eating habits. A healthy individual needs an appropriate level of fats to allow proper functioning of the immune, hormonal and reproductive systems. Fat also acts as a source of energy, a thermal insulator and shock absorber for tender organs inside the body. So presence of fat within an acceptable limit is always useful for us, however, excessive presence of fat affects the usual movement, flexibility and appearance of the body. Being overweight for a long period of time and not working towards maintaining an ideal body weight leads to a number of ailments and reduces life expectancy to a great extent. Hence, weight loss is not just the need of the hour to look good but also to increase life expectancy and tame many a diseases that arise due to increased weight.

We, at Green Gram Wellness Village treat weight loss issues with traditional, organic and the most effective and formal ayurvedic therapies. Overweight individuals are usually diagnosed with Kapha and Pitta doshas. Our years of observation, research and experience has helped us gauge that weight gain is due to a reasons like stress, depression, genetic diseases, poor nutrition, unhealthy sleeping patterns, lack of exercise, hypothyroidism etc. Hence we plan a balanced programme that modifies the diet and exercise routine for the guests and hence balances the doshas. Patients diagnosed with Kapha or Pitta Doshas have unhealthy eating patterns that slow down their metabolism and result in weight gain. The programme charted by us for weight loss is elaborated below for a better understanding.

  1. Ayurvedic therapies for weight loss – At Green Gram Wellness Village, we treat our patients with the help of traditional, healthy and non-toxic procedures. We recommend herbs suitable to the individuals Prakriti. Herbs like Triphala, Guggul, Ginger etc help break down the undigested food and facilitate detoxification. Some more Ayurvedic therapies are provided below.

  1. Udvartanam is an Ayurvedic technique of a full body massage with the help of herbal powders mixed in warm oils. The massaging technique we follow at Green Gram Wellness Village is an age old technique that assists in burning body fats and promotes weight loss. This therapy also tones the body and exfoliates the skin.

  2. Podikizhi – Podikizhi is an Ayurvedic therapy wherein we prepare a mixture of herbs and herbal powders and tie them in muslin cloth bundles. At Green Gram Wellness Village, we choose herbs that have weight reducing properties and dip the bundles in a liquid that expedites weight loss. The massages strengthen the nervous system and increases immunity.

  3. Vasti therapy – Some cases may also require Vasti Therapies (Enema therapies). At Green Gram Wellness Village, we may recommend Kashaya vasti wherein we prepare a special concoction of oils and introduce into the rectum of the patient while the patient is lying comfortably over a wooden bed. The liquid is introduced via a leather sac known as the Vastiyantra. The warm concoction of oils introduced induces bowel movement and promotes detoxification by expelling waste products from the body and making the body lighter than before.

  1. Diet – At Green Gram Wellness Village, we provide a balanced combination of fruits, vegetables and juices in all the meals. We extensively use spices like cumin, fennel, turmeric that are cooling to the stomach blended well with vegetables, legumes and pulses that go easy on the digestive system and provide necessary nutrients and fibre to the body. The food contains low levels of cholesterol and hence promotes weight loss in the most successful way.

  2. Exercise routine – Yoga asanas that benefit the digestion and hence improve metabolism and encourage weight loss are practised under the guidance of a Yoga instructor. Asanas like Veerabhadrasana (the warrior pose), Adho Mukho Svanasana (to strengthen and tone the arms), Bhujangasana (the cobra pose) etc are practised to reduce body fat and energise the life forces.

  3. Sleeping and resting patterns – Weight loss techniques need to be followed by quality and regular resting and sleeping patterns. Our bodies need the much required rest after a long work routine or an exercise routine. Asanas like Savasana are highly recommended; however, sleeping patterns need to be revisited and revised for better results. Hence we chart resting patterns appropriate to the doshas diagnosed to help you recover faster and promote weight loss efficiently.
